What We Do

The Regional Multifamily Energy Retrofit Collaborative organizations are working together to make big and bold moves to address climate change. Our focus is to reduce energy consumption in the built environment.

Individually, we offer funding, expertise, connections, and resources for our neighbors to make energy-efficiency improvements to their properties. Contact the organization near you to find out how you can take action now:

Collectively, we’re on a mission to scale our impact by reducing energy throughout our largest buildings, such as multifamily housing complexes and neighborhoods. Our primary aim for this initiative is to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, save energy, and improve living conditions in low- to moderate-income housing.

In 2023, the Department of Energy awarded us a $100,000 Energizing Rural Communities Prize. During “Phase 1”, we utilized this funding to gain a better understanding of multifamily housing needs in our communities as it relates to greenhouse gas emission reduction and are assessing the feasibility of energy-reducing retrofit projects.

Applications for “Phase 2” are due July 2024. The Regional Mutlifamily Energy Retrofit Collaborative is finalizing “Phase 1” of this project and is preparing its application to the Department of Energy for “Phase 2”. In “Phase 2,” we intend to identify buildings for retrofitting, conduct energy audits, secure financing, and implement retrofits like air-source pumps, improved insulation, and more.
