Choose Sustainable Building Upgrades That Pay Off
The next step after benchmarking is taking action. Building Performance Standards (BPS) require building owners to meet energy performance targets by actively improving their buildings over time. These policies help reduce energy use, lower carbon emissions, and create more efficient, sustainable spaces.
Buildings account for a significant portion of carbon emissions. Making improvements to our existing building inventory helps achieve decarbonization goals because the majority of commercial and residential building stock that will be standing in 2050 is already built. By implementing energy-saving solutions, we can reduce emissions, maximize investments, address climate change, and ensure long-term sustainability for our communities.
Once your building is benchmarked, CORE can guide you through the next steps to improve efficiency and meet state and local building performance standards.
CORE’s services include:
The State of Colorado requires all commercial, multifamily, and public buildings 50,000 square feet or greater to select a building performance standards pathway by July 1, 2025. Some local municipalities have additional requirements.
CORE partners with local governments to provide building performance support in these areas:
Building Performance Standards set energy reduction targets over time, giving owners flexibility to choose the technologies and strategies that work best for them. These policies have been successfully adopted in places like Washington, D.C., New York City, St. Louis, and across Colorado and Washington state.
Making smart building upgrades today ensures lower operating costs, a more comfortable building, and a healthier environment for all. CORE is here to help.
