The CORE Grant is back!

After a year hiatus, we are excited to announce the CORE Grant (formerly the Randy Udall True Pioneer Grant) is rejoining the funding lineup! We can all agree 2020 was a trying year, and due to covid-19 we had to put our flagship grant on a pause and make a couple of changes. We are taking advantage of our updated territory (Pitkin and Eagle Counties in the Roaring Fork Valley) to […]

The Contemporary, currently a work in progress, will be Colorado’s most energy-efficient and lowest carbon-emitting performing arts center.

It was a near miss and chance encounter that started The Arts Campus at Willits on its Path to Zero. But as the arts organization winds up construction on its new Contemporary Center for the Performing Arts, AKA The Contemporary, and gets ready to welcome audiences in […]

You’ve probably heard of Holy Cross Energy, but like most people, you might not think about your utilities much after that. As the valley’s largest utility, it might be worth taking a closer look, since they are responsible for providing clean, sustainable electricity options from Aspen to Vail. HCE is a cooperative, which means it’s the customers who have a say in decision making, so that’s where you come in. The energy coop is having an […]

Stitching Together a Carbon-free Community

When Matt Shmigelsky found the foreclosure sale up the Crystal in 2014, the property was in rough shape. The previous owner — a real-life junkyard owner — had left his calling cards all over the three-acre lot. “RVs, trash, a lot to clean up,” said Matt. But beneath the debris, he could sense potential on this rare piece of accessibly priced raw land where he could park the low-carbon tiny home he had just built with the support […]

Vote, Volunteer, Feel Better

Is the world feeling strange — and you with it? You’re not alone. A recent poll by the American Psychiatric Association shows that anxiety is on the rise in the US. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to any American with a pulse. But given that this survey took place in late May — three months after COVID landed but before 2020 began unleashing its full script — you can bet it’s […]

New Chapter: CORE Rebates + Grants

By |2020-12-10T14:02:19-07:00October 9th, 2020|Blog Feed|

A few weeks ago, CORE announced a big shift in how we deliver financial incentives for renewable energy and energy efficiency to the Roaring Fork Valley. Effective January 1, 2021, the service territory for CORE rebates and grants will be limited to Pitkin County.

This is due to changes in Pitkin County building codes which resulted in rising renewable energy installations (good news) and a commensurate drop in payments into the Renewable Energy Mitigation Program (REMP), whose […]

And the Winner Is…All of Us! CORE’s 2019 Energy Warrior Awards

As the 25th anniversary year winds down, CORE had one final move: honoring local champions of clean energy and climate restoration with our first-annual Energy Warrior Awards. Under the guise to the organization’s quarter-century celebration last month, we surprised ten local individuals and a nonprofit with awards in five categories. Two tributes — to the past and the future — highlighted the evening, with the Lifetime Achievement award honoring Bill Stirling and the Youth category prize bestowed on […]
