Path to Zero

5 Easy Steps…

to an electrified, carbon-free space including assessments, rebates and free energy advising.

Path to Zero is based on the concept of a net-zero building — the kind that generates as much energy as it consumes. But what does it take to get there? We’ve broken it down into five steps that apply to any building, whether new construction or remodel of a home, business or facility:

1. Assess & Easy Action

Start by evaluating the energy performance of your space with an energy assessment and then tackling the low-hanging fruit of efficiency, like smart thermostats and LED lighting.

Common Questions

How long will it take to schedule my commercial site visit?

You visit will be scheduled within one to two weeks after we receive all of your utility bills.

Why do you require my utility bills?

When you submit your utility bill, it verifies your electric service territory and helps CORE measure the energy impact of your project. This way we can customize the advice we give you.

2. Air Seal & Insulate

Shore up your space by sealing drafts and insulating walls, attics, and crawl spaces to make the most of the heating and cooling you’re already paying for.

Common Questions

Why don’t you rebate windows?

Windows don’t pass the “cost-effectiveness test” for reducing carbon emissions and we want you to get the most bang for your buck!

Why does CORE require air sealing before we insulate?

The path to zero is all about maximizing efficiency. Sealing air leaks before improving insulation ensures you get the most out of your energy upgrades.

3. Electrify Everything

Get off of fossil fuels (natural gas and propane) and onto electricity by switching your appliances and mechanical systems to all-electric.

Common Questions

Everything I see on the web tells me that heat pumps don’t work here?

Cold climate heat pumps work in temperatures up to -13°F! Aspen and the Roaring Fork valley rarely have days or nights that cold, but incase there is a cold spell, it’s always good to have a backup option. Learn more about cold climate heat pumps here.

I’ve heard a lot about heat pumps but don’t understand how they work.

Heat pumps pull heat from the outside air and turn it into heat for your home. Even when it’s very cold, there is still some heat in the air. It is the opposite in the summer, where is pulls cool air from the air and moves it into your home. Get all of the info about heat pumps here!

4. Power With Renewables

Tap renewable electricity sources like solar, wind, and geothermal to heat and power your space.

Common Questions

If a home is off-grid, are they still eligible for energy-efficiency rebates?

If your home is not connected to the grid, your project does not qualify for CORE rebates.
