Solar: Grid Alternatives
What is GRID Alternatives? GRID Alternatives Colorado is a nonprofit organization that serves families throughout the State. GRID Alternatives installs solar electric systems exclusively for low-income homeowners, using a volunteer barn raising model that gives community members, students, and job trainees the opportunity to install a system from start to finish. Under their business model, they raise the money to fund the solar systems for low-income homeowners within 80% of the Area Median Income.
How much can you save? GRID Alternatives households can receive twenty years of low cost solar electricity without paying the upfront costs for the system. The average GRID system saves each family $20-25,000 over the lifetime of the system.
How many systems are available? GRID has agreed to work with CORE to install 10 solar electric systems in the Roaring Fork Valley in 2014-2015. The installations of 10 systems will provide hands-on installation training to 150 individuals, supporting the clean energy economy in the Valley.
