Many years ago when I was skiing in Europe I met a local mountain patroller. While skiing I was given lots of local information about the town and its history. The most prominent statement was said as we were at the bottom of the lift waiting for our chair. “Do see that large rock at the base of that lift tower (while pointing)?” I stated I did see it. He then let me know that that’s where the glacier ended when I was skiing here as a child. I remember then looking up the hill to see again where the current glacier ended. My jaw dropped. The beginning of the glacier was above the terminus of the ski lift.
